Started Shopping Yet?

Have you received the email about shopping local this season? We certainly have and of course we are 100% behind the notion. So often we get tied up with buying the biggest and the best television, game or clothing piece and it just doesn’t make sense because usually we replace that awesome item within a few months anyway.

So why not try this year to think outside of the box! Buy some baked goods at a local bakery, shop at a consignment store (Classic Attic-wink*) for a unique gift with a story, make something yourself or buy a gift certificate to a local store or clothing boutique. It’s not as hard as you may think and you will probably end up avoiding all those crazy holiday crowds and who wouldn’t love that? Happy shopping everyone!

Gorgeous Darling!

I personally use a closet but when a piece like this wardrobe comes in I wish I didn’t. There is nothing exciting about an ordinary closet (except if you have one of those swanky custom built ones), and there probably never will be. A wardrobe however always has such great scale and presence, beautiful doors, delicate gilt, or luxurious woods. My closet has plastic hangers and boxes from college collecting dust.

So please make me a happy person and purchase this wardrobe so I won’t buy a piece that I don’t need!

Fall Dressing

I’m declaring that Fall is finally here. I think the weather is cold enough to solidify my beliefs. So how do I prepare for Fall? So far it has included a voracious appetite for Fall fashion magazines, spiced chai lattes and keeping my cold toes close to a heater. This got me thinking though, if I’m preparing for Fall/Winter, am I do anything to get my house dressed for the colder season as well? Alas, the truthful answer is no.

Easy ways to prepare your lovely abode for colder temperatures and greater style? Try changing out your artwork. Have bright florals hanging around? Switch them for neutral and darker toned still lifes or portraits. Also bring in some herringbone or faux fur throws.  And finally throw into the mix some great Fall colors in your accessories like burnt oranges, regal reds, stately purples and toasty yellows. Happy Fall everyone!

Accessories: $5.00-40.00

Contemporary Art: $120.00 Pair

Mrs. Pettigrew Lives for a Day

I was thinking about this movie the other day, marveling at the glamorous set design and thought, there are some pieces here at Classic Attic that would definitely fit the bill for drop dead glamour.

Still from the movie…

I think that I would start off with these silvery Asian crane panels, add in some sparkling crystal chandeliers, metallic chairs and some great accessories and be well on my way to Hollywood glam. Don’t you think that sounds like a grand plan or at least the beginnings of one?

Asian Screen Panels: $160.00

With a Twist

Do you know what this image is? If you’ve been in the store you probably know but if you haven’t then keep guessing. So many pieces that do come in are traditional and fit into a lot of design schemes but every once in a while a treasure comes in that stands alone. This is one of those pieces. New items are coming in every day and many of them deserve a look or two or three…

If you haven’t figured it out yet here is the answer: Shades to a funky floor lamp!

Everything Old Is New Again

Has any one else noticed how vintage is the new now? A few of the most popular examples of this are fashions from Mad Men and The Help, the re-emergence of the grown up bar, and of course our personal favorite, turning vintage pieces into something new and modern. A clever consignor turned this old Magnavox record player into a swanky cool bar. Have you seen or done anything to breathe new life into a treasured find? Let us know or send your before and afters to [email protected]. Looking forward to seeing your creativity!
