August

From the pen of August:

My background is event and promotion director for both Martha Stewart and Ralph Lauren in the 1990s.Upon relocating to the Charlotte area I was a lifestyle contributing feature editor for various publications including Charlotte Place, Charleston Place and the Charlotte Observer.

Redecorating borders on an addiction for me. I love an ever-changing environment, and to make this possible, it is necessary to consider economy. Enter the fabulous world of Classic Attic, and perhaps like me, you will be inspired to update your interior without breaking the bank.

The old adage “one man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure” rings true for me! Some of the pieces in our home that receive the most compliments are a $10 dollar wing chair from the Jr. League Thrift Shop and my breakfast room banquette from Classic Attic. It’s fun to find pieces with good bones and recover them. A few hundred dollars later you have a piece that’s all your own! A very rewarding feeling, that’s why I love thriftiness.

One of my favorite items is a delightful green plaid settee from Classic Attic that came with plenty of extra yardage which was turned into a handsome valance, and there was even enough to cover my chairs and make cocktail napkins. It was a good thing I ran out of fabric, I may have found myself making a matching ribbon belt and that really would have been over the top – even for me – and that’s saying something!

The Ladies at the Attic make sprucing up or clearing out a lot of fun. They’re always ready to help and show off the latest treasures. It’s one of those spots that, in my opinion, is a Charlotte decorator institution. You never know what you will find…

Happy hunting, Fellow Treasure Hunters.
